Subclass 189 is a Skilled Independent Permanent visa. This visa allows you to live, work or study in Australia for an indefinite time. Subclass 189 Visa eligibility
- You must have at least competent English to meet language requirements for this visa.
- Your age must be 45 years or less when you are invited to apply for a Skilled Independent Visa.
- You must meet the character and health requirements of the Department of Home Affairs.
- You must not have any outstanding debt to the Australian Government.
- You must not have your visa cancelled or refused while you were in Australia.
- You must have positive skills assessment unless exempt.
- You must be able to score at least 65 points or higher.

What is the cost of a 189 visa?
The fees for the main applicant for Skilled Independent Visa – Subclass 189 is AUD4,045. Each family member included in the application also has to pay the visa application charge. If any of the family members who is 18 years or over and don’t have functional English have to pay a second instalment charge of AUD4,885.
Is it possible to change the visa category after lodging EOI?
Yes, you can update your EOI in SkillSelect under any of the following circumstances: You want to change the visa category. You have changed your occupation or family composition. You scored higher points (because of higher qualification, improved work experience, passing a higher-level English test)
